Vitaly’s GMAT Waiver Request Letter Sample

Here is the letter:

Dear Admissions Committee:

Based on your guideline for a GRE or GMAT test waiver, I request that you waive the GMAT requirement for my admission into the PMBA program at the University of Utah.

Here are my reasons for the GRE or GMAT test waiver:

• My friends know me as a very pleasant, diverse, active, and intelligent man. I will bring my innate zest for life and enthusiasm with me to the PMBA program, demonstrated by my effective full-time work experience of eight years with Moxtek. This work experience started a long time before I completed my undergraduate program at UVU.
• My experience at Moxtek taught me how to work in a team environment to better serve our clients with strong technical skills. Based on my achievements outlined in my resume, I demonstrated increased responsibility over time, which was referenced in the recommendation letters.
• I established a strong and well-respected reputation as a highly effective, aggressive, and successful marketer of X-ray technologies. I demonstrated work expertise and leadership skills while managing several projects. I collaborated regularly with other members of the sales team and several colleagues from several departments such as our research, development, design, purchasing, production, and quality management teams. While working with these different teams, I completed several projects including:
  • Growing the Russian X-ray market, and increasing sales in this market by over half a million dollars in one year;
  • Growing the Ukrainian X-ray market, and increasing sales in this market by over half a million dollars in one year;
  • Finding alternative and effective solutions to reduce production costs and improve product quality, which was achieved by finding a Ukrainian supplier, saving Moxtek $400K/year (68% reduction);
  • Using computer science skills to find solutions for communicating from bottom to top and vice versa within the company on certain projects’ production processes. This improvement was achieved by collaborating with the production, engineering, and management teams in creating a “FlowChart” tool that is now adopted by the management and production teams;
  • I had the primary responsibility for managing the company’s website creation and marketing, which improved our online visibility, user interaction, and quote generation. This improvement reduced the amount of time spent by our sales and marketing teams trying understand what customers needed. Presenting the pros and cons to our management team for redesigning the website was a very challenging task. However, I successfully designed and launched the website and received the approval of our administration. Initially, I imagined this project would be rather simple, but it was among the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life.
• I have also completed vital certifications while working full time, such as Product Management TrainingZigZag Marketing October 2009, Product Management Training Program Blackblot (February 2008), Strategic Business Writing, Mountainland Applied Technology College (April 2010), Fundamentals of Marketing: Your Action Plan for Success, American Management Association (March 2013), Business Conversation Skills for the Multilingual Professional American Management Association (March 2012), Fundamental Selling Techniques for the New or Prospective Salesperson, American Management Association (June 2012) and many others. Those certifications helped me grow professionally, widening my horizon and management capabilities to realize my goals of completing a successful PMBA program at the University of Utah.
• GRE or GMAT tests may not reflect my potential and capabilities in getting an MBA degree. I achieved an overall GPA of 3.45 in my undergraduate coursework in the United States, which is almost 0.5 points higher than my overall GPA received for my undergraduate work in Ukraine. In the last 61 hours of undergraduate coursework, I successfully achieved a 3.54 GPA. I have ambition, determination, and potential to succeed even more in the PMBA program.
